Tilling:

  • Using a hand-truck or a tractor, create a prepared space.

Grobmaterial herausarbeiten

Removal of rocks and coarse material:

  • Rocks, large chunks of earth, large tufts of grass and/or weeds must be removed from the levelled ground using rakes and shovels.

Erdverbesserung

Soil improvement:

  • Usually not necessary. With heavy and/or non-porous soil, one should add quartz sand in order to make the ground lighter and more porous.

Erdanlieferung

Soil delivery:

  • The lawn base layer (earth) should cover at least 15 cm. If this requires additional soil, light (sandy), rock-free, fine field soil is the best suited.

Levelling (Flatten surface):

  • Coarse surface: use a shovel (or a mini-leveller on a large surface) to level the surface.
  • Fine surface: use a rake to adjust the surface.

Turf:

Delivery: Only when the soil is prepared should you arrange delivery of Marchfeldrasen turf. As soon as it is delivered, it should be laid and arranged. The delivered turf cannot stay in its rolled state for more than one night.

Laying: Roll out roll after roll in rows. Make sure that the turf rolls are flush up against one another and that there are no gaps or overlaps. To avoid cross-seams, begin each row a little staggered. For smaller spaces, a sharp knife or Stanley utility knife to cut curves, corners and ends. In larger spaces or when a lot of cutting work is needed, a pair of lawn shears can make work much easier.

Flattening: After finishing the laying and installation, but before watering, you should flatten the area with a medium-heavy roller. Small areas can be walked on with lawn shoes or planks.

Watering: After flattening the area, the first watering should be done with a hose and sprinkler. Water very generously and exactly roll for roll so that the base soil is saturated at least 10 cm deep. To avoid letting the turf rolls dry out on hot days, you should alternate between laying 50-80m2 of roll and flattening and watering, then proceed with the next section.

After installation:

  • 1st week: Always keep the lawn moist – water daily (except when it rains or is very overcast and cool), and don’t walk on the lawn (except with lawn shoes).
  • 2nd week: Only water half as much. After 7-10 days, mow for the first time (Stop watering 1-2 days before this, otherwise spoors will appear).
  • 3rd week: Reduce to watering in normal amounts (see Care Guide). After mowing a second time, fertilizer should be applied (see Care Guide). The lawn can now be walked on and is fully functional.
